By the year 2080, the atmosphere had become so polluted that even a simple breath could trigger violent coughing fits. Eventually the major factions decided enough was enough and started a massive operation to clean up the air. Massive air intakes disguised as greenery were installed all about major cities. These intakes drew in polluted air and funneled it into vast underground purifiers, where it pooled in massive tanks. Inside these tanks were droplet-sized, hornet-like drones that swarmed to capture pollutants. The drones collected the toxins, storing them inside until they were full, then deposited the waste into a nearby source network for repurposing.
